Most of the tasks the Lord gives us are small, but He wants us to do them as if they are great and noble, and they are when we do them because we love Him and want to please Him. When we are faithful in doing what we consider the small things, we are able to reach lost souls for Christ and help fellow believers to grow up in Him and become more like Him! There really is no such thing as a small task to our Lord.

If you do not belong to Him, repent of all your sin (Luke 13:3,5) and receive Him as your Lord and Savior NOW, before it is too late!

The English poet Samuel Coleridge talked with a man who did not believe that children should be given any religious instruction at all.

This man claimed that the child’s mind should not be prejudiced in any direction, and when he became older he should be permitted to choose his religious opinions for himself.

Coleridge said nothing; but after a while he asked his visitor if he would like to see his garden. The man said he would, and Coleridge took him out into the garden, where only weeds were growing. The man looked at Coleridge in surprise, and said, “Why this is not a garden! There is nothing but weeds here!”

12 REASONS I DON’T GO TO SPORTING EVENTS ANYMORE

1. Every time I went, they asked me for money.

2. The people sitting in my row didn’t seem very friendly.

3. The seats were very hard.

4. The coach never came to visit me.

5. The referees made a decision I didn’t agree with.

6. I was sitting with hypocrites—they only came to see what others were wearing!

7. Some games went into overtime and I was late getting home.

8. The band played some songs I had never heard before.

9. The games are scheduled on my only day to sleep in and run errands.

10. My parents took me to too many games when I was growing up.

11. Since I read a book on sports, I feel that I know more than the coaches, anyway.

12. I don’t want to take my children because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best.

CHURCH ON THE ISLAND

A man was marooned on a desolate island. After he had been there for five years he was found and rescued. As he climbed into the rescue boat the curious rescuers noticed three grass huts. “We thought you were alone, why are there three huts,” they asked.

The man replied, “The first hut is my home; the second is my church.”

“What about the third hut?”

“Oh, that’s the church I used to belong to!”

It is sad to hear of church splits and saved people not getting along in churches that have not experienced a split. Are you a contributor to unrest and division in your church? There are many things that saved people have a right to lovingly disagree on (notice I said lovingly) but should be united in correct doctrine and all the teachings of God’s Word, working hard to keep and guard the unity of the Holy Spirit in peace by being always surrendered to the Lordship of Christ and the control of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

An elderly woman walked into a church. The friendly usher greeted her at the door and helped her up the flight of steps, “Where would you like to sit?” he asked politely.

“The front row please,” she answered.

“You really don’t want to do that,” the usher said “the pastor is really boring.”

“Do you happen to know who I am?” the woman inquired.

“No.” he said.

“I’m the pastor’s mother,” she replied indignantly.

“Do you know who I am?” he asked.

“No.” she said.

A little boy said, “Dad, did Grandpa make you go to Sunday school when you were my age?”

His father said, “He sure did. We went every Sunday.”

The boy said sadly, “Well, I bet it won’t do me any good either.”

It is not enough to just go to church. We must apply the Bible to our everyday lives.

Two sisters were playing together when eight-year-old Martha insisted that they play school. Five-year-old Jenny wasn’t the least bit interested in thinking about school, but the older sister wouldn’t take “No” for an answer. Finally, little Jenny conceded and said, “OK, I’ll play.” She then added, “Mark me absent!”

Unfortunately, that is the attitude many Christians have towards church attendance.

THE BOY WITH THE “DRUG” PROBLEM

An elderly lady was amazed at how nice the young man was next door. Everyday he would help her gather things from her car or help her in her yard. One day the old lady finally asked the young man, “Son, how did you become such a fine young man?"

The young man replied, “Well, when I was a boy, I had a drug problem.”

The old lady was shocked, “I can’t believe that.”

The young man replied, “It’s true, my parents drug me to church on Sunday morning, drug me to church on Sunday night, and drug me to church on Wednesday night.”

HER FATHER WAS AT THE ENGINE

During the French war, a train carrying dispatches to the headquarters was compelled to go over sixty miles of very rough track, and reach its destination within an hour. The engineer was the bearer of the dispatches, and his wife and child were in the coach. Every moment threatened to pitch the train over the embankment or over a bridge, and, as it rolled from side to side, leaping at times almost in the air, rushing past stations, the few people inside held their breath and often cried out with terror as they sped along. There was one on that train who knew nothing of their fears and that was the child of the engineer. Happy as a bird, she laughed aloud when asked if she were not afraid, and looked up and answered, “Why, my father is at the engine.” A little later, the engineer came into the car to cheer up his wife and, as he wiped the great drops of sweat from his face, the child leaped into his arms and laid her head upon his bosom, as happy and peaceful as when at home. What a lesson for the children of the heavenly Father!

As you face many challenges un life, you can rest without worry because your Heavenly Father is “at the engine” and the Lord Jesus is your shield, refuge and provider (Psalm 28:7, etc.).

SIMPLE FAITH

A pastor in California was giving an invitation at the end of his Sunday morning message when a five-year old boy, sensing the invitation of the Holy Spirit came down the aisle. Not knowing if the boy was old enough to understand salvation, the pastor took him to his office and began to ask some theological questions. The more he questioned, the more confused the boy became. Finally, in exasperation, the little fellow stopped and innocently pleaded, “Pastor Patterson, in your message this morning you said that if I would come and ask Jesus to save me—He would! Now, did you really mean that or not?”

The pastor said, “I didn’t ask him any more questions after that.” He helped the boy to respond to God’s invitation by inviting Jesus Christ to be his Saviour.

The story is told about a little boy who had been invited to a friend’s birthday party. He was so excited and started counting the days until the party. But the morning of the party he was devastated when he found that a blizzard had struck their little town. The snow was falling in wet, heavy flakes, and the wind was howling. “I don’t think you should go to the party,” his father said. The little boy was so disappointed.

He began to importune his father, begging to be allowed to go. Finally, much to his surprise, his dad said, “All right, you can go to the party.” The little boy bundled up in his hat and coat and mittens and started down the street to his friend’s house. When he got to the door, he turned around and saw his father turning to walk back home. It was then he realized that his father had been walking behind him all the way to make sure he was safe.

There may be times when we feel like we are alone, but in truth we are always surrounded by the love and goodness of God. There is never a time when we are truly on our own. Even when we do not believe Him as we should, "he abideth faithful" (2 Timothy 2:13).

COLONEL SANDERS AND THE BABY

The late Colonel Sanders (of Kentucky Fried Chicken) was on an airplane when an infant screamed and would not stop even though the mother and flight attendants tried every trick they could think of. Finally the Colonel asked if he could hold the baby. He gently rocked it to sleep. Later a passenger said, “We all appreciate what you did for us.”

GRUMBLING AND THANKING

A man had a habit of grumbling at the food his wife placed before him at family meals. Then he would ask the blessing. One day after his usual combination complaint-prayer, his little girl asked, “Daddy, does God hear us when we pray?”

“Why, of course,” he replied. “He hears us every time we pray.”

She paused on this a moment, and asked, “Does He hear everything we say the rest of the time?”

“Yes, dear, every word,” he replied, encouraged that he had inspired his daughter to be curious about spiritual matters. However, his pride was quickly turned to humility at his daughter’s next question.

Things are precious, often because of their relationship. The most precious thing a mother has is her dear babe. We all love those who are near to us by the ties of nature. Precious, therefore, in the sight of the Lord are His saints, because they are born in His household, by regeneration made to be His sons and daughters.

Think not that God our Father has less affection towards His children than we have towards ours. Ah, no! No mother’s heart ever yearned over her child, and no father’s bosom ever rejoiced over his offspring, as the heart of God yearns over His erring children, and as His soul rejoices when they come back to Him.

ASKING QUESTIONS IS THE KEY TO LEARNING

A father and son went fishing one day. After a couple hours out in the boat, the boy suddenly became curious about the world around him. He asked his father, “How does this boat float?” The father thought for a moment, then replied, “Don’t rightly know, son.”

The boy returned to his contemplation, then turned back to his father, “How do fish breath underwater?” Once again the father replied, “Don’t rightly know, son.”

A little later the boy asked his father, “Why is the sky blue?” Again, the father replied. “Don’t rightly know, son.”

Worried he was going to annoy his father, he says, “Dad, do you mind my asking you all of these questions?” “Of course not son. If you don’t ask questions, you’ll never learn anything!”

We can make a lot of excuses for not putting the Lord first in our lives and serving Him with all our strength. Ah, but love changes all of that! When we love Him with our entire being, sacrifice of sleep or anything else will not be considered a sacrifice at all! We will be glad to do anything for Him after all He has done for us. His endless love for us makes it a delight to love and faithfully serve Him.

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FATHERHOOD

A young pastor in Ohio also worked at a feed processing plant in order to make ends meet. Each night when he went home, his boys would look at him and say, “Boy, Dad, you sure are dusty!”

He would grumble to himself, but then smile and say, “Yes, I sure am dusty.” One Saturday morning, as he was washing his car, he looked over and saw his oldest son, 4 years old at that time, begin to pick up small stones from the driveway and rub them onto his pants.

The father asked, “What are you doing?”

“I want to be dusty like you dad,” came the reply.

As the pastor was telling the story he said, “At that time, I realized that if a son would look up to his father for being dusty, he would look up to dad for anything. What a responsibility.”

All of us, who belong to the Lord Jesus, ought to surrender to the Lordship of Christ everyday and by the control of the Holy Spirit so that we can imitate our Lord because our children, grandchildren, other young people and adults are looking at us and our example. We have an awesome responsibility to make sure that the Lord Jesus is seen and glorified in all areas of our lives.

What type of example are you?

By your lifestyle and words, are a testimony to the saving grace and power of Christ to those who need to know Him as Lord and Savior as well as your fellow believers who need to grow up in Him?
